Modes of the major scale

Modes of the major scale
- In the course of your musical studies, you might have heard other musicians talking about the modes. Well now, it's time to find out exactly what these are, specifically the modes of the major scale. You can think of a mode as being the reordering of a scale. In this case, modes are derived from the major scale, but they begin and end on different scale degrees. This gives us different sounds and colors. There are two popular ways of learning modes, the derivative approach and the parallel approach. In the derivative approach, the mode is reordered, or derived, directly from the major scale. In the parallel approach, the mode is altered according to the specific intervallic structure of the mode, as it relates to the major scale derived from the same root. For this video, I'll be using both approaches.
