Harmonic minor scale

Harmonic minor scale

- All right, now it's time for some different types of minor scales. The harmonic minor scale is derived from the natural minor scale. Two scales are almost identical, except that the harmonic minor scale has a major 7th. Check it out. So the degrees of the harmonic minor scale are root, 2nd, flat three, four, five, flat six, and seven. It sounds like this. (guitar scale playing) What makes a scale sound distinctive are the half steps between the scale degrees two and three and five and six, as well as the 7th and root. Also, the augmented 2nd between the 6th and 7th degrees.
