Taking percents and increasing by percents
- [Voiceover] The next percent skills I need to cover are taking a percent and then increasing and decreasing by a percent. So this vocabulary for percent problems is really the biggest challenge for a lot of students. The actual math is not so hard. So let's say I had to take a percent of something. So that might be worded with what is 25% of 200? OK, so one thing we could do here to take a percent of a number, it's pretty easy, we just take the number and we multiply it by the decimal that the percent converts into, so remember, 25% we could rewrite it as .25. And then we would just multiply 200 by .25 and we would get 50. So that's how we take 25% of 200. We multiply the number by the corresponding decimal that the percents can convert into. Again, we're not really changing 25% by rewriting it as .25, we're just rewriting it in a different form. So that's taking a percent. How would we increase or decrease by a percent. Let's say we had to increase 200 by 25%. OK, well, it's kind…
