Reading comprehension overview
- [Voiceover] The biggest verbal reasoning skill is definitely reading comprehension, and about 10 questions in each section will be about reading passages. Of these 10, about seven will be what I would call normal reading comprehension. So in this video I'll talk about normal reading comprehension, and I'll discuss the other minor question types in later videos. So reading passages are generally taken from, or written in the style of, academic journals. In other words, they're written at a very specialized reading level. So the topics of these passages are going to vary pretty widely. For example, there's passages about things like literary criticism, art history, architecture, natural sciences, social sciences, really almost anything you could major in in college. Reading widely on your own will help you work with the diversity of these topics, because you'll be building your background knowledge, and background knowledge improves comprehension of a passage.
