Direct proportion and inverse variation
- [Voiceover] Two kinds of proportions that I want you to be aware of are direct proportion and then inverse variation. So, direct proportion is what I did in the previous video. So, again, let's say for every two cups of sugar there are three eggs in a recipe and a direct proportion would be useful to do if I wanted to just expand the recipe and maybe figure out okay I need to use 40 cups of sugar and then I wanted to figure out how many eggs I need so we just cross multiply and, like before, we're eventually going to figure out that we need 60 eggs. What about a different situation in which we have an inverse proportion? So I'll show you what I mean by that logic. So, let's say I have a bunker that I'm prepping for the apocalypse and I wanna stock it with food and I'm gonna say that my bunker can last 30 people 90 days so there's 90 days worth of food. Let's see, I wanted to figure out how long that same food supply would last 15 people. I might think about setting up a proportion…
