Most calculations happen at a specific level, such as the sheet level or table row level, but level of detail expressions let you specify the level at which we want your calculation to occur. In this movie, I will show you how to define level of detail expressions and give examples of their use. My sample file is 04_05_LOD and you can find it in the chapter four folder of the Exercise Files collection. In this workbook, I have a text table that shows sales by region and state, and I filter the regions that I show, so everything fits on one screen. So you can see I have northeast, southeast, and southwest. I also have subtotals for each of the regions, and you can see them listed here as totals at the bottom of each segment of the pane.
