- In the previous movie, I showed you how to create joins between tables that have a common field. In that example, the common field have the same name in each table. In this movie, I will show you how to create a join between tables where the common field has a different name. I want to connect to an external file so I have data to work with. So I'll go over to the "connect" pane and I will click Microsoft Excel. And then in the open dialogue box, I will double-click "different field names." That workbook opens in Tableau and I can now drag in the tables that I want to use, and those will be "customers" and "orders." So I'll start by dragging customers over to the "drag tables here" area, there it is. I have my preview with the field names and the table that it exists in. And then also I have a preview of my data over on the right. I want to join this table, or relate it to "orders." So I'll drag orders over…
