- [Instructor] One of the benefits of Tableau is that you can use it to connect to many different data sources. If you're running Tableau Desktop, which is the edition I'm working with for this course, you have built-in connectivity to many different data sources. You can see those sources in the vertical toolbar to the left of the Open dialogue, which is currently displayed. So here on the Start Screen, you see that you can search for data on Tableau Server. In this case, I'm not hooked up to a server account, so I won't click that. And then you also have Excel, a text file, a JSON file, Access, PDF, a spatial file, statistical file. And if you wanted to open a dialogue box to look for other files, you could click More. You also have options to connect to a server type, so for example, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, and Amazon Redshift.
