From the course: Tableau Essential Training

Download Tableau

- [Instructor] You are watching a course on Tableau, so I assume that you're interested in downloading the software if you don't already have it. In this movie, I will show you how to do that and also describe some of the limitations of some versions of the product. The website you want to visit is www.tableau.com, that's the name of the company. And on the main page, you will find a number of links that you can use to download the software. So you can click Try Now. You can click Try Tableau For Free, and if you scroll down, you'd see a lot more. In this case, I'll click try Tableau for free and describe some of the items that are available to you. If you want to work on Tableau Cloud, and that is a version of the software that is hosted on Tableau servers, then you can click Start A Free Trial and start using that. I believe the trials are 14 days. If you already have an account, you can just sign in. If you scroll down, you'll see other options that are available to you. Tableau Prep Builder we don't use, but it's useful if you want to clean up your data. It has a lot of built-in algorithms and other features that you can use. So, 85% of the time a data analyst spends at their job is actually cleaning up data, and Tableau Prep Builder can help you with that. We also won't be using Tableau Server, however, that is a very powerful version of Tableau, and you can use that to install on your own systems, on your own computers, and then manage accounts, data permissions, views of data, and so on. So if you think that you want to have an on-premise installation, Tableau Server might be the way to go, but I warn you, it is a lot of work to maintain. We'll be using Tableau Desktop, which allows you to analyze data and to create packaged workbooks and a lot of other things. So you can click here to download a free trial. However, one other thing that I'll point out is that students that are enrolled full-time and teachers can get one year of Tableau Desktop and Prep for free. And when I was a student a number of years ago, I was able to renew that every year. So if you're a full-time student or a teacher, then click one of these two links, sign in, verify your identity, and then you can get your version of Desktop and Prep for free. It's very useful. You might also be familiar with Tableau Public, and if I scroll up to the top of the page, you can see that when I point to Products, and we have Tableau Public. Tableau Public, as the name implies, is a free online resource that you can sign into and analyze data. One important limitation of Tableau Public is that you cannot open Tableau workbooks in it. Instead, you have to upload your data and then visualize online. So what that means is that Tableau Public is not useful for this course. So instead, if you're a student, I encourage you to get a full version of Tableau Desktop for your computer, and if not, work with the trial and see how far that will get you. And remember, you can always create your own resources and follow along.
