Define parameter actions
- [Instructor] Parameters let you create versatile filters in your workbooks. You can also use them to add features to a dashboard or worksheet. In this movie, I will show you how to add a reference line that moves in response to a parameter setting. My sample file is 12_07_ParameterAction, and you can find it in the Chapter 12 folder of the exercise files collection. In this workbook, I have four worksheets and a dashboard and I'm currently showing sales by month which is a line chart. If I want to create a parameter that I can use to define a reference line for this visualization, I need to go to the data tab of the sidebar and then click this helpfully unlabeled down arrow and then click Create Parameter. The Create Parameter dialogue box appears. And the first thing I will do is change the name of the parameter. I'll call it ref line, which is short for reference line. And then I don't need to change anything else…
