What is intelligent disobedience?
(upbeat music) - I never would've imagined the most substantial thing I learned about leadership was from an elevator and a dog. Let's talk about intelligent disobedience. I wish I invented the term intelligent disobedience, but I didn't. It comes from the world of seeing eye dogs. Let me tell you a story. I am standing in the elevator lobby at a hotel at the end of a formal dinner. A gentlemen walks up to me with his seeing eye dog. He is dressed to the nine, beautiful suit, gorgeous color tie, matching kerchief. He's got a seeing eye dog with him. It's in a traditional harness and the dog has got a bow tie matching his master. So we were chatting and then suddenly the elevator arrives. Bing. Woosh with the door opening, but there was a problem. The floor of the elevator is 18 inches below the floor that we're standing on. While I'm just figuring this out, the seeing eye dog, who I learned his name is Chap, jumps into action. Literally. He goes 90 degrees in front of his master, blocking his master from going forward and that's when his master said to me, this is the most obedient dog I've ever had. But when he disobeys me, I obey him. What an amazing concept to apply to the world of leadership. What happens when the processes that serve your business well, don't work and the outcome you get is not going to be what people expect? Join me as we explore intelligent disobedience and how we can turbo charge your leadership and the deliverables that you and your team create. (upbeat music)
