- [Narrator] Suppose a town has 35,000 adult residents. 50% are male, 50% are female. Each week, 50 adults are chosen at random to participate in jury duty. Women have complained that they're getting called to jury duty more often than men. Jury administrators contend the system is random and fair. A committee is set up to investigate. They use the next jury pool as a sample. This next pool of 50 potential jurors has 14 men and 36 women. The jury administration says the process is fair. It happened by chance. A lobbying group disagrees. They feel something is making women much more likely to be chosen. What we have here is an excellent opportunity to utilize hypothesis testing. Hypothesis testing is really a process, in our case, a five-step process. In an effort to keep you focused on each step, we're going to keep the math simple. So let's begin.
