- [Host] So what is SharePoint? Let's have a brief introduction. SharePoint Online is not a productivity application like Word or Excel or even a suite of applications like Outlook or Office. SharePoint is a platform that we use to create powerful websites from organizational websites to websites for departments or work groups or project teams. SharePoint provides a secure place where you and I can store access, organize, and share files and data. SharePoint started out as a file storage system, but now includes a rich set of features, content management tools to help users manage and organize their content, including libraries, which are where you and I store documents, lists like Excel tables, where we store structured data, file sharing, both within and perhaps beyond our organization, depending on how our organization has set up permission to do that.
