- Once you've narrowed in on a target job or solid ballpark of promising roles, created a resume roadmap and decided on a template for your new resume, you're officially ready to start your masterpiece. I'm going to take you through the process section by section. I'll be creating a reverse chronological resume, which again is the most common and preferred format, but the lessons should help you regardless of the format you choose. You'll find three sample templates in the exercise files. You can work from one of these or just open up a fresh word or Google Doc if you're not ready to choose one yet. You will of course start your resume with your name, phone number, and email address at a minimum. I would also add your city and state, and your LinkedIn profile URL.
