Creating a show that best serves your ideal listener

- [Instructor] It may seem counterintuitive, but the easiest way to find a large engaged podcast audience is to narrow your topic focus as much as possible. Let's talk through how to focus your podcast topic as much as possible and how to find your ideal listener. The most important thing in creating a successful podcast that creates, reaches, and engages an audience is to identify the audience you want to reach ahead of time. This starts with identifying what you are passionate about, what truly moves you, and what problem you are trying to solve. You may also ask yourself, who are your best clients and what pain points or problems do they have? Now it's time to pick your topic or your audience, or your listener, and refine or focus that topic down. So first, go over your answers to the previous questions. Does a topic pop out at you? Then try to refine, niche down, or focus the topic as much as possible. After you have a potential topic, now it's time to, first, do some market research. So go to Apple Podcasts and search for that topic. What podcasts do you find? What other podcasts are those people listening to? Then do a quick Google search on that topic. What else is out there on this topic? And finally, create your ideal listener profile. Answer these questions to create the profile. What is the listener's age, gender, likes and dislikes? Where do they hang out online? Where do they shop? What career do they have? The answers and information you have just collected will guide you throughout the process as you pick your title, episode format, create your content, and finally launch. Identifying the audience you want to reach is crucial to the success of your podcast. Before you move on, answer the questions in this video, choose a topic, and create your ideal listener profile.
