- The first part of your pitch is leading with your destination. Hereto forward, you are going to start by looking forward. Tell me what you're excited about. Tell me what you're hoping to do next in your career. Tell me why launching this women's initiative is going to be crucial to making an impact on our organization. Now that you have this idea in your head, you're going to be so surprised by how often people don't lead with their destination. Listen to someone introduce themselves, or kick off a panel, or welcome you to a meeting, and 99 times out of 100, we start by looking backward. Giving you all of the background about where we've been and what we've done, and the data that supports the mission, instead of getting people on board and excited by what comes next.
