How to set and achieve better goals
- Here's the problem with goals. We have too many of them. Sometimes we get a little too excited about our self improvement projects and we pile them on. Having 10 or 20 goals is basically having no goals at all. It's too much to keep track of and you can't make meaningful progress on that many things at once. If you want to set better goals and actually achieve them, you have to focus and pare it down. Here's the formula that I developed and shared in the Harvard Business Review. It starts with choosing only three goals to focus on at a time, two professional, one personal. For instance, your professional goals might be something like have a networking lunch once a week and execute the new product launch well. Your personal goal might be start taking kick boxing lessons. Next, it's important to think about the duration of your goals.
