- Okay, first, let me give you a high five for completing the pre-offer stage. If you're here, you've set yourself up for success by finding what's most important to you and what you deserve to get paid. Now, in phase two, we're getting to the fun part of negotiating. Your future employer is excited about you. You are their top candidate. Your ego may tell you to just accept the offer and be happy, but from a recruiter's lens, you have leverage to ask for more, and the conversation is expected. So after hearing the verbal offer, I encourage you to express your enthusiasm for the role and politely ask for the offer details and benefits information in writing. This can simply sound like: "Thank you so much for the offer, Megan. I really appreciate the offer and this sounds really promising.
