Create a custom number format with Excel
- Have you ever needed to make a custom number format like this? Here is a quick tip. On the home ribbon in the numbers drop down menu, select more number formats, and there we can navigate to the custom tab and type the formatting you're looking for. So for example here, if we want something to be in millions, I can type a hashtag to represent the number and then put million inside of quotation marks. And now when I go to type a number it's automatically going to update it in that format for us. Another cool use case for this that I use to use in my day job was if I was doing leverage ratios. So let's say I wanted to show with, you know, the little X at the end, I could do 0.00 to represent let's say a two decimal ratio, and then put that X in quotation marks and that ratio will now update into that format for me.
