- Don't get lowballed when recruiters ask you, "So what's your current salary right now?" They want your current salary so they give you a quick bump up on that, but if you're already underpaid, it's not going to help you get up to market. So when you get that question, say these things instead. "You know, I'm looking for a role that pays me fairly in the market. What's the budget you have for this role? I'd love to learn more about this opportunity and see if it's a good fit before we go into salary talk. In terms of salary, I'm actually quite flexible on that.
