Connecting through commonality

- If you make a good impression in one area, it influences a person's impression of you in other areas. It's called the halo effect. You can use this to your benefit in a job interview, on your first day in a new role, or any time you're wanting to leave a lasting impression. How? Find something you both like or that you have in common. It doesn't have to be a big thing. For example, "You're originally from Canada? I visited Canada once many years back during Canada Day and I have the best memories!" Soon you'll be talking about how wonderful Canada is and the interviewer will feel all warm and fuzzy towards you. The halo effect means that those warm, fuzzy Canada feelings will influence their feelings about you as a candidate. So, keep that tip in mind. Commonality connects.
