Burnout vs. anxiety vs. depression
Burnout was recently classified as a diagnosable mental health condition from the World Health Organization, but it's not treated the same way in the American Psychological Association's DSM, or Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Anxiety and depression, on the other hand, are considered official classified metal health disorders worldwide. So, let's break down the difference between burnout, depression, and anxiety. Burnout is a state of chronic stress that's characterized by its three main symptoms, emotional and physical exhaustion, cynicism and detachment, and feeling a lack of effectiveness. Depression can include many of burnout's symptoms, but often additionally presents with a low self-image, feelings of hopelessness, and even suicidal thoughts.
