- Delegation doesn't come naturally to most of us. After all, you likely got promoted because you're so good at getting things done yourself. Giving work to other people and relying on them to complete it to your standards can be a very scary proposition. And even if you delegate a project to someone, well, as their manager, you're still accountable for the results. There are lots of reasons managers don't delegate work as often as they should. Some just relate to being busy. You may think it will take longer to explain a task than to do it yourself or even feel guilty about putting more work on someone else's desk. But the biggest barriers are psychological. Some managers hoard information, requiring others to come to them for data. Others lack confidence in the skills of others or believe they're the only one who can do the job right. Or it maybe even simpler.
