- [Instructor] In this movie, we'll go over some of the terminology and hardware requirements to do a traditional surround sound mix in Logic. The next two movies cover all the techniques for mixing in classic surround sound while not using the new Dolby Atmos tools. As you'll see, many of the concepts are related and relevant, no matter what spatial audio workflow you find yourself using. To mix around in Logic, you'll need more than two channels of output on your sound card or audio interface. All formats that are considered surround need at the minimum four channels of output. This means your internal Mac core audio card isn't enough. Officially Logic support six surround formats. Let's go through them. The first one is quadraphonic. This format uses four channels with speakers set up symmetrically. Quad became outdated in the later 70s.
