- Some bosses are terrible. There, I said it, it's a sad fact of life. But before you assume your boss is falling into that terrible category, consider the possibility that they're not trying to be terrible. They might just be overwhelmed or distracted. It's hard not to take a boss's behavior personally, but remember, they have a lot going on. We all have bad days and even bad years. Grant your boss some space, not everyone is watching a LinkedIn course on improving their communication. Now, the first step in managing a terrible boss is to be crystal clear about your ask. Your boss is not a mind reader, they don't know what kind of help or support or feedback you need. Perhaps the person in your role before you wanted to be left alone and you like more collaboration.
