- To be promotable, you must master leading from the middle and there are three points to note. First, know when to lead. Don't go bossing people around when you don't have the authority just in the name of leading from the middle. Leading from the middle means producing, but it doesn't always mean directing. You make sure everything happens, but you're not the official one to lead. Instead, you want to invite good behavior. Now it's tempting to want to be the solo star, especially if you're trying to get a promotion, but you'll set yourself up for success if you get others to help you. If you're aspiring to a leadership role, demonstrating your skills now by rallying people and inviting them to step up in a way that empowers them is great for you. You should also be personal.
