Cultivate productive relationships with your peers
- Working with peers who are not as ambitious as you are, can be frustrating, but there are two choices, you can let it hinder your performance, or you can use the situation to make yourself stand out in a good way. Now your peers are going to likely fall into one of three groups, ambitious supporters, neutral or low ambition. And you want to deal with each group a little bit differently. Pay attention to see who else is ambitious and driven. These are the people you can talk to about your own ambition. You want to surround yourself with people who work hard and who are committed to making a positive impact on your organization. I have to tell you, one of the big mistakes I made early in my career was assuming that the other ambitious people in my company were my competition. I was wrong. They were my peers.
