- You've assessed the conditions and you're confident you can do most of the next job. Now is the time to ask for your promotion. Congratulations. Now it'd be nice if they asked you, but ambitious people don't wait. They ask and having the courage to ask, shows your leadership ability. If you're not formally up for promotion, set your ask up for success. By getting specific time on the decision-makers calendar, to talk about your potential promotions. You're unlikely to get a yes or no in the first meeting, especially if the promotion process is less formal, but you want to set those wheels in motion. Now asking for a promotion is very different than asking for a raise. Asking for a raise is where you highlight how good you are at this job.
