- Data governance is a complex and important capability for most organizations. With data now playing a central role in helping to support business success, now is the time to initiate the deployment of data governance, or build on the efforts that may already be in place. Data governance helps us to achieve much better outcomes with data management work. It puts in place agreed policies and procedures with identified accountability. It defines formal decision structures over data, and it establishes enforcement rules. It's said that when data governance works well, nobody notices. But its absence is all too often noticed.
