The role of the chief data officer

- While acknowledging that all staff in an organization have responsibilities and data governance, data stewards, data owners, and the data governance board typically represent the key roles. But like with everything else in our rapidly transforming world, roles and responsibilities are evolving and new ones are being introduced. Barely known just 10 years ago, the role of chief data officer or CDO is beginning to appear in a big way in the C-suite. This new executive level position reflects the increasing role of data as an organizational asset and the recent emergence of data science as a mature, defined business function. Unquestionably too, the CDO is beginning to be viewed as the organizational leader of data governance. The CDO is still a role being defined in many organizations.
