- So the data governance program has been established. The basics are in place. Necessary staff have been identified. There is leadership support. Everything would seem to be perfect and aligned for success. Certainly though, managing and maintaining new processes in an organization is difficult. Far too many internal initiatives fail not long after implementation. But we want data governance to succeed. What will it take to make that happen? The first requirement for maintaining your program is to ensure that it is well-documented. This requires high quality, understandable, and accessible documentation. Put it online, perhaps on the organization's portal if that exists, or at a minimum on a website accessible by all stakeholders.
