Exploring the role of knowledge graphs
- Data governance deploys and enforces policies for data management so that an organization can ensure they maximize data value and keep data secure. Intuitively, if data is more deeply understood, the higher the likelihood that it can be managed better and more value can be derived. In particular, when the relationship of one dataset to another is understood, both by humans and increasingly by machines, more solutions open up. The mechanism to explore, comprehend, and leverage these data connections and insights from various data silos has become known as a knowledge graph. Let's go a little deeper. With knowledge graphs, we're not simply talking about connecting two units of data, such as a product and a price. Instead, we are advancing the meaning of connections by describing and capturing the nature of the linked data. When we assemble and describe data in this way, it's called an ontology.
