- The meeting's first couple of minutes set the tone and expectation for everything that follows. So it's essential that you start well. Of course, the meeting facilitator is responsible for starting meetings on a positive note. Yet, every attendee contributes as well. Here are five tips that can help both facilitators and attendees start online and in person meetings as positively and productively as possible. First, arrive early, this helps you start the meeting on time and make sure that any technical details are resolved before the scheduled start time. I recommend arriving at least five minutes in advance. Second, eliminate distractions. If you have a device that's on, and may distract you, turn it off. If there's music playing, turn it off.
