- To keep meetings moving smoothly and on time, it's important to keep the meeting on topic. Keeping meetings on topic is every attendee's responsibility, not just the meeting facilitators. Do your best to remember the stated purpose of the meeting and keep your comments focused on that purpose. However, the facilitator is the one who will keep the meeting moving along and make small corrections if things get off topic. There are a few best practices that can help. First, decide on how people will take turns speaking. For example, one team had a system that when one person finished speaking, they said, "I'm done and I'll turn it over to you, Jen." This works well for all meetings, especially online and hybrid. If you're the meeting facilitator, you can do this too.
