Completing action items

- Now what? The meeting's over. What should you do? You'll likely come away from most meetings with some action items, tasks, or projects you need to work on. Part of the success of future meetings depends on your success in completing these action items. When the next meeting happens, you want to be able to report confidently that you followed through. So review each action item you gathered, one at a time. In my course on the fundamentals of time management, I teach the concept of processing, deciding what, when and where for every task, specifically what is the next step, when will it be done, and where does it belong? Carefully review your calendar and schedule time to complete your commitments. I recommend scheduling as far into the future as is reasonable but not right to the edge of the due date. So for example, if you said you'd get something done 14 days from now, schedule enough time to complete it by day 12.…
