- The clean desk policy. Now, most big companies have one. It basically says you should keep all sensitive information off your desk at night and locked up so it doesn't end up in the wrong hands. But just like at a lot of places, at the big company where Martin Hettich worked, compliance was spotty at best. So, in one of their monthly meetings, the leadership team was discussing ways to fix that. And they started with the discussion about where the biggest problems were. Well, it turned out most people were pretty good about locking up their drawers. The main problem was all those documents being left out on the printers overnight. So, the VPs and directors took turns offering up ideas. One of them suggested, let's write a memo for the president to send out explaining why it's so important to lock everything up.
