Understanding the role of sound effects
- [Instructor] Sound effects make up the world of sound that surround the dialogue. These include background tracks, ambiances, actor motivated sounds, which we call Foley, hard effects, and even other sound design elements, like other worldy drones and mood enhancements. Let's take a close look at all these elements so we can understand the role of sound effects. We'll start with hard effects. Hard effects are sounds effects that match specific actions, like a door closing, a gun shot, a car sound, and they often come from a library or they're recorded specifically for the scene. I'm going to give you an example of a scene and here you can identify hard effects as the sound of the laser wand zap that happens twice at the end of the scene. Let's check it out.
