What are the signs that you’re not listening?

- How can you tell when you're not listening? It's actually a little tricky because since your mind is somewhere else, you might not notice right away. So we need to learn to monitor ourselves and become conscious of where our attention is so we can stop ourselves before we offend someone. Here's an inventory of signs to watch out for and if you catch yourself doing any of these, pause and redirect yourself. First is interrupting. When you see yourself cutting the other person off, stop. You're not giving them enough conversational space. You have to let them finish. Second, steering the conversation in another direction. Now, this happens all the time organically and it's not a problem. If you're chatting with a friend, something they say might remind you of something else and off you go. But if the other person is trying to talk to you about something they feel is important, they're going to be upset and feel not…
