Set learning goals and follow skills

- [Oliver] On the left hand side, in the side navigation bar, I have the option for career journey. I'm going to go ahead and select this. And this brings me to my customized career journey page. Now here there are two main tabs, my library and my goals. In this video, I want to focus on the my goals tab. Where inside we have career goals, weekly goal, and skills followed. It's important to take the time to enter this information in because it allows the LinkedIn learning platform to better customize its content recommendations. Here you can see that I first have career goals. I'm going to go ahead and click on this. And it's just asking what my current career goal is. Am I trying to grow and advance in my current career, transition to a new career, or develop skills to manage teams? Now you don't have to answer this. At the bottom you could click not now. But remember that by entering this in here it helps the platform to give better recommendations for content that they believe will help you out. In this case I'll click grow and advance in my career. Now it also allows me to fill in some skills, but this is something I'll look at in a second. So I'm going to close that out. Now here they're already giving me some content recommendations based on what I just told them. To the right though I want to take a look at weekly goal. Weekly goal is a neat way to gamify your learning. If I go ahead and click on edit inside of here. It opens up the popup for my weekly goal which I can set at 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or 120 minutes. I currently have Mindset at 60. And if I click Set goal, you'll notice on this page that it also gives me an update letting me know that I currently have 40 of my 60 minutes completed this week. So this is a great motivator, and a way to make sure that you're staying on top of your learning. Now down below we have the section that is skills followed. This is where you can go in and choose skills that you would like to learn more about and be notified about. So if I click here on show more you can see that I have a bunch of them selected. And I can manage them at any time by clicking on the manage tab in the upper right. This will bring me to this popup where I can see the ones down here that I'm already following. All of these green ones. And if I wanted to get rid of one I could simply click to exit out. Here's education. And now I got rid of that one. Up above this they are suggesting skills based on my role and my activity. So they're saying do you want one for staff development, for customer experience, and so on. And at the top you have the search bar where you can search ones that aren't here under suggestions. So let's say I wanted to add education back because I do. I can type this in here, select education, and it adds that skill back in. So I do recommend going through this, and finding skills that are relevant to you and your professional growth, and entering them into this section. Once I'm done, I'll go ahead and click save. And now I've adjusted my skills followed. So again, take the time to access the career journey section of your LinkedIn learning account. Update your goals and follow some skills in order to get a more customized and efficient experience on the platform.
