From the course: How to Use LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning video player controls

- [Instructor 1] When watching a video on LinkedIn learning, you have access to their robust video player, which contains many useful features. In this video, let's take a quick look at that video player and some of the features that can help make your learning more efficient. First, up at the top, at any time, on the left hand side, you can see the name of the course as well as the name of the video. Over to the right here, we can leave a review. If I click on this, it allows me to leave a review for this course, something I recommend doing because customer feedback does help drive future versions of the course. To the right of this, you can click on the thumbs up button to like it. Next to this, you can click on the bookmark button to save a course, and these numbers are simply just telling you how many people have liked them and how many people have saved the course. To the right of this, we have the plus button, and if you click on this, you can add the course to one of your collections. So here, if I want to go down, I could find the collection that I want to add it to, or if I want to add it to a new collection, I could go ahead and create one. And then to the right of this, we have the share button, where I can click it and share it either on LinkedIn, Teams, via email. I can get a link for it, and so on. Down at the bottom is where the actual video controls are. The one on the far left is pretty obvious. We have the play button, but it is an important one, because I think it emphasizes the benefit of video-based learning, and that is that you can pause a video, do something, come back, and then play it again. So very convenient. If you need to do something, I recommend just... - [Instructor 2] Important to establish learning outcomes. - [Instructor] Simply pausing that, and then being able to go back to it. Next to this, we have the skip back and skip ahead 10 seconds. I don't really use the skip ahead. Skip back I like to use, if there's something they say where I didn't quite understand what they meant or what they said. I'll simply hit that back 10 seconds and listen to it again. Here you can go forward or backwards videos within the course. Next to this, it tells you how far you have advanced in this video. Now the playhead up here also tells you that. You can see right here. I can click on that and then drag it. So if I wanted to go to somewhere else within the video, I could click it and drag it there, which is now at 44 seconds of this two minute and 32-second video. Now, way over to the right, you have some other features, and this first one is really important, I think. It is the playback speed. So if there is something you're watching that's a review to you, or you've already seen it, or perhaps the instructor is talking too slowly, you can go ahead and change the speed of that video. So here, for instance, let's play this. - [Instructor 2] And measurable. In order to determine whether the learner has successfully mastered that outcome. - [Instructor 1] Now I'm going to switch this to 1.5 times, and you'll notice here that it's a little bit faster. - [Instructor 2] Let's take a look at some examples of action verbs that are good to use. Here you have one... - [Instructor 1] So depending on the content you're listening to and the speed of the instructor, you may want to adjust the speed of the playback. Next to this, we have closed captions. I'll play this again here, and you'll notice that they are not on. - [Instructor 2] Ones like describe, demonstrate. - [Instructor 1] However, if I go click this on, I can decide on the language, and now... - [Instructor 2] Outline, design, contrast, and create. - [Instructor 1] Now I do see those closed captions. To the right of this, we have settings, where I can decide if I want continuous play, meaning that when a video gets done, it will automatically advance to the next video. I can determine the quality of video that I want. Remember that a higher quality is going to take up more bandwidth. And then back on here, I can also go to keyboard shortcuts. Right now I have mine on. When you click them on, you'll be able to see what those shortcuts are. They can save you some time if you use this quite a bit. Now next to this we have the mute button and the volume button. If I click on it, it will mute it, and then I can also use this little slider to adjust just the volume, turn it up or down. And to the right of this, we have full screen mode. If I click on that, we go full screen, and I can escape that at any time by clicking on escape, and there I am back on the course page. So familiarize yourself with the video player and its features and use them to improve your learning experience on LinkedIn learning.
