- There're different schools of thought regarding displaying emotions during workplace conversations. Now, personally, I don't believe that emotions are bad and should be suppressed at all costs to maintain professionalism. Instead, I'd advise you to utilize your emotions as a tool to create more authentic connection and also to better represent an issue. If you're reflecting on an incident of racially-motivated police brutality, for example, sadness is a completely legitimate emotion. Frustration is a completely legitimate emotion, and even anger is completely legitimate. Sharing your honest feelings as you make your point can provide a window into your perspective and relay a sense of urgency or gravity. I personally don't think you build strong, trusting workplace relationships by being inauthentic, pretending we're not hurt, offended, or disappointed when we really are.
