- While emotion may be an important part of the discussion, it's just as important to not get stuck there, and instead focus your energies primarily on solutions and next steps. It's also important to realize that as you raise issues around race, you'll likely be asked for your own recommendations. So be prepared to share some ideas that will have significant impact. Remember that racism is about impact, not intent. So it's helpful to carefully consider those tangible impacts as you ponder potential solutions. Possible recommendations might include activities like an apology if someone was offended or mistreated, developing meeting ground rules to encourage consideration of all ideas and more balanced airtime, listening sessions that provide a space for staff to share authentic thoughts and feelings, analyzing racial diversity or demographic data to better understand racial representation, analyzing and revising processes…
