- It's difficult to truly know what level of entrepreneurship there really was. Now this is 1972. The Valley arguably started in 1933, so it was 40 years into it. 72 Apple had not started yet, Apple started in 76. There were new industries, it wasn't simply sugarcane and pineapples in, you know, hotel rooms anymore. There were new industries and that was unique. You're asked about your motivations and your path and you say, "Yeah you know, "I always wanted to dent the universe. "I always wanted to change the world. "I wanted to make the world a better place. "I wanted to create, you know, "this great new computer, etc., etc." Well let me tell you something. So when I was in Hawaii in my high school years, somebody once gave me a ride in a 911.
