- I think all of marketing and maybe all of entrepreneurship can be boiled down a simple two by two matrix. And in this two by two matrix, the vertical axis is your degree of differentiation. So the higher you are, the more different you are from everything. The other axis is value. So near the zero point, you have no value. Out towards here, you a very valuable thing. So the bottom line for entrepreneurship is that you want something that's unique and valuable. If you're unique but not valuable, then I mean, you're just stupid (laughs). You've created a market, you're trying to tap a market that doesn't exist. And if you're valuable but not unique, you always have to compete on price. And if you're not unique and you're not valuable, well you are a total loser.
