- So we've looked at the manual way to install a code which I don't really recommend and the GTM method which is great, but it does require that you set up and use Google Tag Manager, but there is one more way that's kind of unique in that it also doesn't require any additional code on the page. If you have a Universal Analytics Tag already on the site, which is the previous version of Google Analytics, and it uses the updated version of the tag called the Global Site Tag or gtag.js, then it can act like a Tag Manager and populate your GA4 property with that existing tag. Now personally, I'm not a huge fan of this way. It makes it a little bit tougher to troubleshoot, and it forces you to maintain the older implementation style.
