- [Instructor] When you're looking for data within a lists, 2 sometimes it's important to be able to get a count 3 of how many entries occurred, 4 not necessarily concerned with each specific entry. 5 In column B in this list, we've got ID numbers, 6 and maybe it's the middle three numbers that we care about. 7 In the past, they've referred to departments or division, 8 but we know from our experience that it's important 9 to be able to locate them. 10 And that 680 that occurs next to James Abbott 11 in the middle of the ID number 12 is what we might be looking for. 13 And one approach here is to test for it simply in this case, 14 and then copy this down the column. 15 And what we rely upon here 16 could be one of two different functions in Excel. 17 On the Formulas tab under Text, 18 we see lots of different functions here, 19 but the two that we're going to focus on 20 are going to be the FIND function, which is…
