Format cells using color scales
- [Instructor] One useful way to summarize data visually is by using a color scale, which uses a cell's value to determine which fill color to assign to the cell. Unlike rule-based formats that either apply a color or not, the color scale conditional format applies a color from a two or three color gradient. And in this movie, I will show you how to create and apply them. My sample file is 05_04_ColorScale, and you can find it in the chapter five folder of the Exercise files collection. In this workbook, I have a pivot table that summarizes retail and wholesale sales for my different sales regions. And let's say that I want to use the color scale to identify the relative values within the body of the pivot table that is in the values area. To start, I'll click any cell within the values area, and then on the home tab, I'll click conditional formatting and then point to color scales and I can use one of the built-in color scales.
