- [Instructor] We've talked a lot about a variety of different tools that are being used by accountants in a variety of different software packages, from QuickBooks to Excel. But what we haven't talked as much about is some of the controllership aspects of working as an accountant. Let's take a look at an example of how we can use accounting tools in Excel to analyze financial statements and understand business performance. I'm in the 05_01 begin Excel file. Now what we have here is a simple set of financial statements for an income statement, a balance sheet, and a statement of cash flows for a business. And we've got this on a five year historical basis as well as projections for the next five years. But what we might want to do is go through and start with identify some what we refer to as KPIs or key performance indicators. Now, KPIs generally fall into a few different categories.
