- [Instructor] Let's take a moment to look at a side-by-side comparison of VLOOKUP and XLOOKUP. So with VLOOKUP, the lookup has to look right. The return array has to be to the right of the lookup array. But with XLOOKUP, it does not matter. For values that aren't found, any hashtag N/A errors, you have to wrap VLOOKUP in an if N/A. But with XLOOKUP, there is a built-in component for if not found. For the return arrays, with VLOOKUP, you have to count the number of columns. So if you have to go out 25 columns, that can be a mess. And it's easy to make a mistake. But with XLOOKUP, you merely select the column that you want. For VLOOKUP, the lookup array must be assorted ascending. With XLOOKUP, doesn't have to be. VLOOKUP can break, if you insert columns. XLOOKUP, no problem.
