- Excel has a number of functions categorized as Text functions. If you go to the Formulas tab in the ribbon and choose Text you see quite a few entries here. A lot of these allow us to manipulate information at the character level. In column A we've got a bunch of part numbers here. Now it turns out that some of the codes here are important. The letter G maybe is meaningful and we simply out of a potentially large list want to find those part numbers that have the letter G in them. Maybe that relates to the size of the item, or the color, something like that. We could search for that character with a function called, FIND begins with what it is we're looking for and we want to use double quotes here. ", what are we looking for here? The letter G",.
